When it comes to marking the life of someone, our Memory Cushions made from shirts are our most popular option.
It allows you to keep clothes that remind you of your loved one, in a prominent place in the house, such as the sofa or a beloved chair. The Memory Cushions are also amazingly snuggly (depending on the fabric used of course!).
We can make your Memory Cushion out of just one item, but you can supply us with more if you’d like to. Memory Cushions made from shirts works beautifully, but jumpers, blouses or scarves work just as well.
In general, we use a featured part of the clothes, such as the buttons on the front of a shirt or the zip on a cardigan, for the front of the cushion.
The back of the cushion will usually be the back of a garment, as it gives a better finish for the final Memory Cushion.
Each cushion is beautifully finished with 5mm piping all around the edge and filled with fire retardant toy stuffing.
We select cotton bias binding from our stock in either a matching or contrasting colour for the piping.
It’s essential to remember that as these Memory Cushions have been made from shirts and other clothes that have been worn and loved by someone – often for many years – that they may well have stains or holes in them.
And that’s fine! It’s all part of the history of the garment.
We will do our very best to cut around any marks or holes but depending where they are placed, it’s sometimes not possible to avoid them entirely.
You can also choose to have one of our unique poems featured on the front of your cushion. These were written by Katie and are copyrighted to Memory Zoo.
You won’t find these lovely poems anywhere else!
You can also write your own saying, sentiment or poem, which we can embroider onto the cushion for you.
There is also no waiting list for our Memory Cushions.
We feel that the comfort these items bring to you after a loved one has passed away is too important, and it doesn’t feel right to make you wait in the queue.
We know how healing they have been to so many people dealing with grief and we are honoured to have been part of their healing process.
